Sparenmoos –
A place of power with a fascinating alpine cultural landscape
Sparenmoos is a unique high plateau above Zweisimmen at 1,600-1,750 metres above sea level. In this fascinating Alpine cultural landscape, dairy farmers produce the exquisite Premier Grand Cru AOP Bernese Alpine cheese.
Sparenmoos has long been recognised as a moorland of national importance and exceptional beauty. The gentle landscape is considered a place of power with magical light. Sparenmoos offers the most beautiful relaxation and energy. Whether on the themed trails and circular walks, by bike or setting off for Rellerli, Jaunpass or discovering Hundsrügg with its sensational 423 summit panorama.

Sparenmoos – themed trails
Three trails – two destinations
The Sparenmoos-Neuenberg moorland landscape is home to a multitude of scenic gems, as attentive visitors will surely have noticed. These can be discovered and enjoyed along three themed trails. The strategy of creating such trails leads to a classic win-win situation:
- On the one hand, as a visitor to Sparenmoos, you can choose a theme and let yourself be guided along a path laid out by experts through the most beautiful and interesting parts of the landscape.
- The second winner is the moorland: by concentrating activities on the three exciting themed routes, the highly sensitive moors are protected.
What do the themed routes offer?
The Moorweg trail leads through flat and raised bogs, explains the formation and processes in moorland landscapes and takes you to mystical and legendary corners. If you want to find out more, you can move from highlight to highlight with a treasure map and photographed details of the terrain. If you match them correctly, you will receive a sweet reward in the restaurant. Maps with relevant information and pictures are available free of charge at the Sparenmoos Centre.
The Kulturweg trail focuses on the cultivation, nature-oriented use and maintenance of the moorland landscape. Learn more about litter use, cheese production and modern alpine farming – live and first-hand.
The wildlife trail is not just for animal lovers: a newly built viewing platform offers breathtaking insights into the habitat of wild animals as well as a unique panoramic view over Sparenmoos and Simmental.
